MLB Players Weekend Returns to Showcase Individuality and Community

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball today announced the return of Players Weekend, a three-day event celebrating the personalities, stories, and passions of its players. The event begins today, Friday, August 15, and will run through Sunday, August 17, across all 45 scheduled games.

Building on the success of last year, Players Weekend 2025 will focus on three core themes: “Off-Field Interests” (Friday), “Causes” (Saturday), and “Appreciation” (Sunday). These themes are designed to highlight the unique personalities of each player, the charitable work they support, and the people who helped them on their path to the big leagues.

In a key change from past editions, this year’s event will not feature special team uniforms with nicknames. Instead, players will wear their regular game caps with their uniform number featured prominently on the side. The primary focus will be on custom equipment, with players permitted and encouraged to use personalized bats, cleats, and other gear that reflects their unique stories.

Many players are expected to use their bats as a canvas for creativity, with designs that pay tribute to family members, hometowns, and even pop culture characters. These custom pieces of equipment will be available for auction following the weekend, with all proceeds going to a charity of the player’s choice.

The weekend will conclude with the annual MLB Little League Classic presented by New York Life on Sunday night in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The game, which will air on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, will feature the Seattle Mariners facing the New York Mets. As is tradition, players from both teams will interact with Little Leaguers participating in the Little League World Series earlier in the day.
