Notes
The Astros had 28 different players on the injured list during the 2025 season, losing more potential value to injuries than any other team according to FanGraphs. Key contributors who missed substantial time included:
- Jeremy Peña (rib fracture from HBP in June; missed significant time)
- Josh Hader (shoulder injury ended season in August)
- Isaac Paredes (hamstring injury; missed two months after All-Star selection)
- Yordan Alvarez (only 48 games played due to hand fracture and ankle sprain)
The injury crisis was cited by GM Dana Brown as a primary reason the Astros missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016, finishing 87-75 and one game out of the final Wild Card spot.

Organizational Impact
Starting Rotation: Absolutely decimated with Blanco, Wesneski, Garcia, Javier, France, and Arrighetti all on IL. Team has been forced to rely heavily on prospects and bullpen games.
Bullpen: Dubin’s absence adds strain to relief corps already working overtime due to rotation issues.
Outfield: Major crisis with Alvarez, McCormick, León, Melton all on IL plus Meyers day-to-day. Forced to use utility players and call-ups.
Infield: Peña, Guillorme, Rodgers, Dezenzo all on IL creates depth issues across the diamond.
The Road to Recovery
The Astros are potentially looking at several key returns in the coming weeks. Javier and Garcia could significantly boost the rotation, while Peña’s return would stabilize the infield. McCormick’s return would provide much-needed outfield help.
However, the loss of Blanco and Wesneski for the season, combined with uncertainty around Alvarez’s timeline, means the team will need to continue relying on organizational depth and potentially make moves at the trade deadline to remain competitive.
The sheer scope of these injuries – affecting virtually every position group – represents one of the most challenging injury situations any team has faced in recent memory. The Astros’ ability to remain competitive speaks to their organizational depth and resilience.
