MILWAUKEE, WI – May 6, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ offensive struggles continued as they fell 4-3 to the Milwaukee Brewers last night at American Family Field, allowing the Brewers to clinch the three-game series. The Brewers scored all their runs in a decisive first inning and held on despite a late Astros rally.
Astros right-hander Hayden Wesneski (1-3) took the loss, giving up all four runs on five hits and two walks in just four innings of work. Brewers starter Chad Patrick (2-3) earned the win, pitching 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Trevor Megill earned his fourth save of the season for Milwaukee.
The Brewers jumped out to a significant early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run double, followed by a two-run home run from Jake Bauers, giving Milwaukee a quick 4-0 advantage. This first-inning outburst accounted for all of the Brewers’ scoring for the entire game.
The Astros offense remained quiet until the seventh inning. With runners on, Brendan Rodgers launched a three-run home run to right field, his first of the season, cutting the Brewers’ lead to a single run at 4-3. This brought the Astros within striking distance for the first time.
Houston had opportunities to tie or take the lead late in the game. In the eighth inning, with runners on first and second with two outs, Brewers catcher William Contreras threw out Jose Altuve attempting to steal second, ending the threat.
The Astros finished with 5 hits, compared to the Brewers’ 6, but could not capitalize on their chances. Despite Rodgers’ three-run homer, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
The loss dropped the Astros’ record to 17-18, and they will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale tomorrow.
