MILWAUKEE, WI – May 7, 2025 – The Houston Astros broke out of their offensive slump in grand fashion, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 9-1 last night at American Family Field to avoid a three-game sweep. A stellar performance from Framber Valdez on the mound and a resurgent offense led by Jeremy Peña powered Houston to the decisive victory.
Astros left-hander Framber Valdez (2-4) earned his first win since Opening Day, pitching seven strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. For the Brewers, starter Quinn Priester (1-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings.
The Astros offense, which had been stagnant in the previous two games, broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning. Zach Dezenzo hit an RBI double, scoring Jake Meyers and giving Houston a 1-0 lead.
Houston extended its lead in the fifth. Jeremy Peña reached on a fielder’s choice to score Zach Dezenzo, and then a passed ball allowed Brendan Rodgers to score, making it 3-0. The Brewers got their only run in the bottom of the fifth when Eric Haase hit a solo home run off Valdez, cutting the lead to 3-1.
The decisive blow came in the sixth inning when Jeremy Peña blasted a three-run home run to left field, his fifth of the season, extending the Astros’ lead to 6-1. Peña had a strong night overall, driving in four runs.
The Astros continued to pour it on in the ninth inning. Isaac Paredes hit an RBI single, and Yainer Díaz followed with a two-run double, pushing the final score to 9-1.
Houston collected 8 hits in the game, capitalized on 7 walks issued by Brewers pitching, and were far more efficient with runners on base. The bullpen, including Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader, closed out the game effectively.
The win improved the Astros’ record to 18-18 and prevented them from being swept on the road. They will now return home to begin a new series.
