HOUSTON, TX – April 28, 2025 – The Houston Astros returned home and snapped a two-game skid in convincing fashion, defeating the Detroit Tigers 8-5 last night in the first game of their three-game series at Daikin Park. The offense, led by Jose Altuve and Christian Walker with two-run homers, powered the comeback win.

Astros starter Ronel Blanco allowed three runs on three hits over five innings. The win went to reliever Steven Okert (1-0), who pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Josh Hader (8th save) closed out the game in the ninth. Tigers starter Jack Flaherty (1-3) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on six hits in five innings.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, with Kerry Carpenter hitting a two-run home run in the third inning off Blanco. Riley Greene then added a solo shot in the fourth, extending Detroit’s lead to 3-0. Greene had a big night for the Tigers, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs.

However, the Astros’ bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on, Christian Walker launched a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 3-2.

Houston took the lead in the sixth inning when Jose Altuve smashed a two-run homer, his fourth of the year, off Flaherty, putting the Astros up 4-3.

The Astros then exploded for four runs in the seventh. Mauricio Dubón hit a two-run single, followed by an RBI groundout from Altuve and an RBI single from Yordan Alvarez, extending Houston’s lead to 8-3.

The Tigers tried to rally in the eighth with Riley Greene’s second home run of the night, a two-run shot, but the Astros bullpen held firm.

The Astros finished with 10 hits, with Altuve and Jeremy Peña each collecting two hits. The win moves the Astros’ record to 15-13 on the season and starts their homestand on a positive note.
