HOUSTON, TX – April 29, 2025 – The Houston Astros staged another impressive comeback to defeat the Detroit Tigers 6-4 last night at Daikin Park, clinching their three-game series. A late offensive surge, particularly in the sixth and seventh innings, fueled Houston’s victory.

Astros starter Ryan Gusto pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six. The bullpen once again held strong, with Bennett Sousa (1-0) earning the win in relief after a scoreless outing. Josh Hader secured his 9th save of the season, despite giving up a two-run homer in the ninth. Tigers starter Reese Olson (3-2) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The Tigers took an early lead, with Kerry Carpenter hitting a solo home run in the first inning off Gusto. Gleyber Torres then singled in a run in the fifth, extending Detroit’s lead to 2-0.

The Astros offense remained quiet through five innings, but they exploded for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take their first lead. Christian Walker doubled to score Jose Altuve, pulling the Astros within one. Then, Yainer Díaz delivered a crucial two-run single, which put Houston up 3-2.

Houston extended their lead in the seventh with another three-run outburst. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single, followed by Isaac Paredes hitting an RBI triple. Díaz then continued his clutch hitting with another RBI single, making it 6-2.

In the top of the ninth, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run home run off Josh Hader to cut the deficit to 6-4, but Hader settled down to close out the game, securing the Astros’ eighth home win in their last nine games at Daikin Park.

The Astros finished with 10 hits, with Yainer Díaz leading the team with two hits and three RBIs. Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes also had multi-hit games.

The win improved the Astros’ record to 16-13 on the season, ensuring they won the series against the Tigers.
