HOUSTON, TX – May 29, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ homestand against the Tampa Bay Rays kicked off with an unexpected offensive explosion from the visitors, as the Rays stormed to a decisive 13-3 victory at Daikin Park. What began as a competitive matchup quickly unraveled for the Astros’ pitching staff in the later innings.

The game was marked by an incredible performance from Rays third baseman Junior Caminero, who was a one-man wrecking crew. Caminero went 3-for-6 with a home run and a staggering six RBIs, driving in runs seemingly at will throughout the night. He was instrumental in breaking the game open for Tampa Bay.

The Rays offense got going early, scoring a run in the first inning. While the Astros managed to tie it up and even take a brief lead with a solo home run from Yainer Diaz in the 5th and a solo shot from Jose Altuve in the 6th, the Rays’ relentless attack proved too much.

The turning point came in the top of the 7th inning. With the score tied 3-3, the Rays erupted for five runs, highlighted by Caminero’s three-run homer. They followed that up with another five-run outburst in the 8th inning, stretching their lead to an insurmountable margin. Astros pitchers struggled with command and giving up extra-base hits, with Bryan King and Forest Whitley particularly taking the brunt of the damage in relief.

Despite the Astros’ early offensive flashes, their pitching staff simply couldn’t contain the Rays’ bats, who collected 14 hits on the night. The 13-3 defeat put a disappointing start to the series for Houston.
