Comments Off on Peña Returns: Astros Star Shortstop Activated, Solidifying Infield After Deadline Frenzy

BOSTON, MA – August 1, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ whirlwind trade deadline continued right into August 1st, but this time with a piece of good news from within their own ranks. All-Star shortstop Jeremy Peña has been activated from the injured list today, making his highly anticipated return to the active roster for the Astros’ series opener against the Boston Red Sox.

Peña, who has been sidelined since late June with a rib fracture, completed his rehab assignment successfully, showcasing his readiness to rejoin the big league club. His return is a massive boost for the Astros, bringing back one of their most consistent offensive threats and stellar defensive shortstops. Before his injury, Peña was having a fantastic season, earning an All-Star nod.

The timing of Peña’s return is particularly intriguing following the Astros’ blockbuster trade for Carlos Correa yesterday. While both are premier shortstops, General Manager Dana Brown has indicated that Correa will primarily shift to third base, allowing Peña to remain at his natural position. This strategic alignment ensures both dynamic players are on the field, instantly transforming the Astros’ infield into one of the most formidable in baseball, especially crucial with Isaac Paredes still out.

After a deadline marked by bold acquisitions, getting Peña back healthy feels like another major win for the Astros, strengthening their core as they head into a critical stretch of the season.
