HOUSTON, TEXAS — September 20, 2025 — The Houston Astros fell to the Seattle Mariners 6-4 on Saturday night at Daikin Park, dropping their second straight game and losing the series. The defeat pushes the Mariners’ lead in the American League West to two games and clinches the tiebreaker for Seattle, a significant blow to the Astros’ playoff hopes.
The Mariners built an early lead, with a key moment coming in the third inning when Cal Raleigh hit his 57th home run of the season. The record-breaking shot surpassed Ken Griffey Jr.’s single-season record for a Mariners catcher. Seattle extended its lead to 6-0 through the top of the sixth inning.
The Astros showed resilience in the bottom of the seventh when Jeremy Peña hit a grand slam to cut the Mariners’ lead to 6-4. However, that was as close as the Astros would get. The game ended in dramatic fashion in the ninth inning when Mariners right fielder Victor Robles made a diving catch on a line drive from Carlos Correa and then threw to second base to double up Jake Meyers for the game-ending double play.
