CLEVELAND, OH – June 6, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened their three-game road series against the Cleveland Guardians with a 4-2 victory last night at Progressive Field. The win marked their third straight overall and continued their strong play away from home.

Astros left-hander Colton Gordon (1-1) earned his first win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five. Josh Hader (17th save) closed out the game for Houston. For the Guardians, Logan Allen (3-4) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits over six innings.

The game remained scoreless through four innings, as both pitchers held their ground. The Astros broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth inning. Jeremy Peña singled to third base, scoring Jake Meyers. Jose Altuve followed with an RBI single, scoring Isaac Paredes. Then, Christian Walker singled to right field, bringing home Jose Altuve and giving the Astros a 3-0 lead.

The Guardians got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Will Wilson hit an RBI single, cutting the lead to 3-1.

However, the Astros responded in the top of the sixth inning when Brendan Rodgers launched a solo home run to center field, his second of the season, extending Houston’s lead to 4-1.

Cleveland tried to rally in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from David Fry, making it 4-2, but that was as close as they would get. The Astros bullpen held the Guardians scoreless through the final three innings.

The win improved the Astros’ record to 35-28. They’ll look to clinch the series in the next game.
