LaMonte Wade Jr.’s Astros tenure lasted four games.
Houston placed Wade on the injured list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain after he exited Monday’s win over the Angels. Wade appeared to injure himself while running out a sixth-inning double and was replaced later in the game.
The Astros signed Wade to a major-league deal last week, and the early returns had been encouraging. He went 4-for-12 across four games before landing on the IL.
To fill the roster spot, Houston recalled Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Loperfido opened the season as Houston’s left fielder but had been out since April 19 with a right quad strain. During a nine-game rehab assignment with Sugar Land, he went 11-for-37 and now returns after posting a .276/.348/.362 slash line in his first 20 games with the Astros this season.
With Nick Allen already sidelined by a left hamstring strain, left field appears likely to fall back to Loperfido as Houston continues to manage a roster that entered Tuesday with 12 players on the injured list.
