HOUSTON, TX – June 25, 2025 – The Houston Astros continued their impressive pitching display last night at Daikin Park, shutting out the Philadelphia Phillies for the second consecutive game with a 2-0 victory. Rookie starter Colton Gordon led the charge, allowing no runs over five strong innings, and the bullpen continued the dominance.
Astros left-hander Colton Gordon (3-1) earned the win, delivering an outstanding performance, allowing only four hits over his five innings while striking out four and walking none. The bullpen, including Seth Martinez, Parker Mushinski, and Bryan King, held the Phillies scoreless. Josh Hader (S, 21) closed it out for his 21st save of the season. For the Phillies, Zack Wheeler (7-3) took the tough-luck loss, giving up just one earned run on four hits over six innings, striking out eight.
The Astros got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning. Jeremy Peña hit a leadoff ground-rule double, and then Isaac Paredes singled to drive him in, giving Houston a 1-0 lead.
The game remained a tight pitching duel until the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Victor Caratini launched a solo home run to left field off Matt Strahm, extending the Astros’ lead to 2-0. It was Caratini’s 6th home run of the season.
The Phillies offense, despite collecting seven hits, could not break through against the Astros’ pitching staff, leaving seven runners on base. They were shut out for the second straight game by Houston.
The victory improved the Astros’ record to 47-33 and secured the series win against the Phillies, with one game remaining.
