HOUSTON, TX – December 10, 2025 – The Houston Astros have officially signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Weiss to a one-year Major League contract with a club option for 2027, General Manager Dana Brown announced Tuesday.

Weiss posted impressive numbers during the 2025 season with the Hanwha Eagles, going 16-5 with a 2.87 ERA across 30 starts. He struck out 207 batters in 178.2 innings while maintaining a 1.02 WHIP, establishing himself as one of the KBO’s premier pitchers.

The 28-year-old right-hander, who stands 6-foot-4, brings two years of international experience after pitching in both the Chinese Professional Baseball League and KBO. Weiss was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2018 draft out of Wright State University.

The deal guarantees Weiss $2.6 million and includes performance incentives that could push the total value beyond $10 million over two years.

Weiss joins a Houston rotation seeking reinforcement after injuries plagued the staff in 2025. He’ll compete for a rotation spot alongside Hunter Brown, Cristian Javier, and Spencer Arrighetti as the Astros work to return to playoff contention.

Following today’s signing, the Astros’ 40-man roster stands at 39 players.
