HOUSTON, TX – March 31, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened a new series at Daikin Park last night with a 7-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Giants’ offense capitalized on key moments, while the Astros struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities.
Giants starter Jordan Hicks (1-0) earned the win in a dominant outing against his former hometown team, tossing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out six.
The Giants broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning when Wilmer Flores hit an RBI single. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from LaMonte Wade Jr. The big blow came in the sixth inning when Flores launched a three-run home run off Astros reliever Luis Contreras, pushing San Francisco’s lead to a commanding 5-0. Flores finished the night with an impressive four RBIs.
The Astros’ offense was largely stifled for the first seven innings. They finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth. After Jose Altuve singled, Isaac Paredes smacked a two-run double off the left-field wall, scoring Altuve and Cam Smith to cut the deficit to 5-2. However, the rally was stopped there.
The Giants added two more runs in the top of the ninth to seal their 7-2 victory.
Astros starter Ronel Blanco (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over five innings. Houston’s offense managed only three hits in the entire game, struggling to solve Hicks and the Giants’ bullpen.
The loss puts the Astros at 2-2 on the young season. They will look to bounce back and even the series in the next game against the Giants.
