Astros Call Up Logan VanWey as Bullpen Strain Mounts

May 8, 2026

The Houston Astros selected the contract of right-hander Logan VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, adding bullpen depth as the team begins a 13-game, 13-day stretch starting tonight in Cincinnati.

VanWey, 28, is an undrafted free agent signed by the Astros in 2022 out of the Pioneer League. He spent most of 2024 at Sugar Land, going 9-1 with a 3.22 ERA across 60 appearances while leading Pacific Coast League relievers in strikeouts. He made his MLB debut in April 2025. This season at Sugar Land, VanWey had posted three straight hitless appearances before the call-up. He works with a five-pitch mix—four-seam fastball, sinker, slider, cutter, and curveball—and has touched 96 mph.

Outfielder Dustin Harris was sent outright to Sugar Land in a corresponding move.
