ANAHEIM, CA – June 21, 2025 – The Los Angeles Angels bounced back decisively last night at Angels Stadium, defeating the Houston Astros 9-1 in the second game of their three-game series. The Angels’ offense erupted with three home runs, while the Astros’ bats went cold, managing only one run on three hits.

Astros right-hander Brandon Walter (0-1) took the loss, struggling through six innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits, including two home runs, while striking out six. For the Angels, José Soriano (5-5) was outstanding, pitching 6.2 strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out 10.

The Angels got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Luis Rengifo hit a two-run home run off Walter, giving them an early 2-0 lead. They extended their lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run double from Taylor Ward and another two-run home run from Logan O’Hoppe, making it a commanding 6-0.

The Astros finally broke the shutout in the top of the fourth inning when Christian Walker singled to left field, scoring Jose Altuve and cutting the deficit to 6-1.

However, the Angels continued to pile on. Nolan Schanuel hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, and Logan O’Hoppe hit his second two-run home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, making the score 9-1.

The Astros’ offense was stifled by Soriano and the Angels bullpen, finishing with just three hits in the entire game. Jeremy Peña notably struck out three times.

The lopsided loss dropped the Astros’ record to 44-33, evening the series at 1-1 with the Angels and setting up a rubber match.
