HOUSTON, TX – August 27, 2025 — The Houston Astros bounced back from their series-opening loss to the Colorado Rockies with a 4-0 shutout victory on Wednesday night at Daikin Park. The win was highlighted by a dominant pitching performance from Framber Valdez and a memorable home run by Yordan Alvarez.
Valdez was masterful on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out five over seven scoreless innings to earn his 12th win of the season. He kept the Rockies’ hitters off balance throughout the night, never allowing a runner to reach third base until the seventh inning. The Astros’ bullpen, with Bryan King and Bryan Abreu, finished off the shutout, the team’s tenth of the season.
The Astros’ offense provided just enough support to secure the win. Jesús Sánchez knocked in the game’s first run with an RBI single in the first inning. The lead was extended in the seventh when rookie Cam Smith hit a solo home run, his eighth of the season. The biggest moment of the night, however, came in the eighth inning when Yordan Alvarez, playing in just his second game back from a right hand fracture, blasted a two-run home run to give the Astros a commanding 4-0 lead.
The win improves the Astros’ record to 73-60, and they now hold a 1.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. The Astros will look to take the series in the final game against the Rockies on Thursday night.
