Astros Bolster Bullpen with Veteran Reliever Enyel De Los Santos

August 8, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – August 8, 2025 – The Houston Astros, fresh off their series in Miami, have added a new arm to their bullpen, signing free agent reliever Enyel De Los Santos to a one-year contract. The move, which was officially announced yesterday, provides the team with a seasoned right-handed option to help navigate the late innings.

De Los Santos, 29, has a reputation as a high-leverage reliever with a good slider and solid strikeout numbers. The signing is a low-risk move for the Astros as they look to fortify their bullpen for the stretch run. In a corresponding move, the Astros designated RHP Luis Contreras for assignment and optioned RHP Nick Hernandez to Triple-A.

The acquisition comes after a tumultuous week for the team, which saw a three-game losing streak and an overall up-and-down performance since the trade deadline. De Los Santos joins the team as they head into a tough series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
