MIAMI, FL – August 6, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ bid for a series sweep in Miami was thwarted tonight, as they fell to the Marlins by a final score of 6-4. Despite a late-inning rally, the Astros’ offense couldn’t overcome a Marlins’ power surge and a dominant performance from Miami’s bullpen.
The Astros started strong, with Christian Walker hitting a two-run home run in the first inning to put them up 2-0. However, the Marlins’ offense quickly responded with a barrage of hits and home runs. Graham Pauley and Heriberto Hernández each hit a solo homer, and the Marlins put together a big first inning to take a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti (1-2) struggled, giving up five runs on 11 hits through 3 2/3 innings. The Marlins offense capitalized on the opportunities, with Xavier Edwards having a standout day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double.
The Astros’ offense fought back, chipping away at the lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Carlos Correa hit an RBI double that scored Mauricio Dubón, and in the sixth, Victor Caratini added an RBI double. However, the Astros’ best chance to tie the game came in the eighth inning when a pinch-hit single by Jeremy Peña loaded the bases with one out. Unfortunately, the Marlins’ relief pitcher got out of the jam, and the Astros’ rally fell short.
The loss, which saw the Astros out-hit the Marlins 12 to 14, snapped their two-game winning streak and marked a frustrating end to what had been a much-needed positive road trip. The Astros now have a travel day before heading to New York to face the Yankees.
