Dad Duty to Diamond Duty: Christian Walker Returns as Astros Celebrate New Arrivals

July 12, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – July 12, 2025 – Family comes first, even in the demanding schedule of a Major League Baseball season. Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker recently returned to the lineup after a brief stint on the paternity list, rejoining his teammates just in time for the critical Silver Boot Series. His return highlights a personal side of professional baseball, as several Astros players have recently celebrated or are soon to celebrate new additions to their families.

Walker was placed on the paternity list on Monday, July 7th, missing the Astros’ three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. He quickly returned on Thursday, July 10th, to slot back into his everyday first base role for the start of the Rangers series. He did play last night (July 11th) against the Rangers, going 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI on a groundout. His return was a welcome sight for the Astros, especially given his recent hot streak at the plate, where he’d been batting .464 with two homers and eight RBIs in 29 July plate appearances before his leave. Christian and his wife, Amanda, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, though her name has not been publicly announced.

Walker isn’t the only Astro experiencing the joys of fatherhood or family growth this year:

Mauricio Dubón: Utility player Mauricio Dubón and his wife, Nancy, welcomed their son, Luciano, on November 30, 2024. In a truly memorable moment, Dubón celebrated his first Father’s Day as a dad on June 15, 2025, by hitting a walk-off single against the Minnesota Twins to secure a 2-1 extra-innings win for the Astros. He even brought Luciano to the postgame press conference, creating a heartwarming scene.

Bryan Abreu: In April 2025, relief pitcher Bryan Abreu and his wife, Brooke Seymour Abreu, welcomed their first child, a son named Brayden. Abreu was placed on paternity leave on April 30th to be with his family for the momentous occasion.

Alex Bregman: While now with the Boston Red Sox, former Astros star third baseman Alex Bregman and his wife, Reagan, welcomed their second son, Bennett Matthew Bregman, in April 2025. The Bregmans had announced they were expecting their second child in late 2024, with the birth anticipated in 2025. Alex, who played for the Astros from 2016-2024, is still widely remembered and celebrated in Houston, and his growing family is still followed by ‘Stros fans.

These personal milestones offer a glimpse into the lives of professional athletes beyond the field, reminding fans that while the games are intense, family remains a central focus for many players in the clubhouse.
