HOUSTON, TX – June 29, 2025 – The Houston Astros quickly bounced back from yesterday’s loss, shutting out the Chicago Cubs 2-0 in a masterful performance at Daikin Park. Framber Valdez pitched six scoreless innings, and Jose Altuve provided all the offense with a two-run home run.

Valdez (9-4) was brilliant on the mound, earning the win after allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six frames. Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader (23rd save) combined for three hitless innings in relief to close out the game. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon (7-6) was saddled with the loss despite a strong outing, giving up two runs on seven hits through 4 2/3 innings.

The game remained a scoreless pitching duel until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out and Mauricio Dubón on first, Jose Altuve stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to left field off Taillon, breaking the deadlock and giving the Astros a 2-0 lead. It was Altuve’s 13th home run of the season.

The Cubs’ offense struggled to get anything going against the Astros pitching, managing only five hits and stranding multiple runners in scoring position.

With the victory, the Houston Astros finished the month of June on a high note and improved their season record to 50 wins and 34 losses (50-34). They will now head out on the road to begin a series.
