HOUSTON, TX – June 15, 2025 – The Houston Astros completed a thrilling three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Father’s Day last night at Daikin Park, as Mauricio Dubón delivered a walk-off single in the 10th inning to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory. For Dubón, who became a father to son Luciano on November 30, 2024, the clutch hit made his first Father’s Day as a dad an unforgettable and deeply emotional moment. This marked the Astros’ fifth consecutive win.
Astros starter Brandon Walter received a no-decision despite a strong outing, giving up just one run on six hits and no walks over 6.2 innings while striking out nine. The win went to closer Josh Hader (4-0), who pitched a scoreless 10th. For the Twins, Cole Sands (3-3) took the loss.
The game remained a tight pitching duel for much of the afternoon. The Twins broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when Brooks Lee launched a solo home run to left field, his seventh of the season, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead.
That 1-0 lead held all the way into the bottom of the ninth inning. With the Twins’ closer Jhoan Duran on the mound, Jeremy Peña drew a leadoff walk and then stole second base. After Jose Altuve singled to move Peña to third, Victor Caratini hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Peña and tying the game at 1-1, sending it into extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, with Jake Meyers starting on second base due to the extra-innings rule, the Astros had their chance. After two outs, Mauricio Dubón stepped to the plate. On the first pitch he saw, Dubón hit a fly ball deep to left field. Twins left fielder Willi Castro had trouble with the ball near the wall, and it dropped, allowing Jake Meyers to score from second for the walk-off 2-1 victory. The play was officially ruled a single for Dubón.
For Dubón, who has often spoken about how fatherhood has changed his perspective and approach to the game, this moment was particularly poignant.
Despite being outhit 8-4, the Astros’ clutch hitting and strong pitching, particularly from Brandon Walter and the bullpen, ensured the sweep.
The emotional win on Father’s Day improved the Astros’ record to 41-30, extending their winning streak to five games.
