HOUSTON, TX – April 21, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened their three-game home series against the Toronto Blue Jays with an emphatic 7-0 shutout victory last night at Daikin Park. Astros ace Hunter Brown delivered a masterful performance, extending his impressive scoreless streak.
Hunter Brown (3-1) was the star of the night for Houston, tossing seven dominant innings of two-hit ball, striking out a season-high nine batters, and walking just one. His strong outing extended his personal scoreless streak to a remarkable 24 consecutive innings. Reliever Forrest Whitley closed out the game with two scoreless innings, completing the two-hit shutout. This was the Astros’ second shutout of the season, while the Blue Jays were blanked for the second time.
Toronto’s starter Kevin Gausman (2-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings.
The game remained scoreless through four innings, but the Astros’ offense erupted in the bottom of the fifth. After Cam Smith reached base, Zach Dezenzo broke the deadlock with an RBI double. Jose Altuve then followed with a two-run double, making it 3-0. Isaac Paredes capped the four-run rally with an RBI single, giving Houston a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Astros continued to add on in the later frames. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single in the seventh inning, and Brendan Rodgers delivered a two-run double in the eighth, bringing the final score to 7-0.
Houston’s offense collected 10 hits on the night, making the most of their opportunities. The Astros’ win streak now stands at three games, improving their record to 11-11. They will look to continue their momentum in the second game of the series.
