HOUSTON, TX – April 19, 2025 – The Houston Astros secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres last night at Daikin Park, winning their second consecutive game for the first time this season. The Astros rallied late in a tight pitching duel, highlighted by key hits from Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes.
Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning off Astros starter Hayden Wesneski. The Padres extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning with an RBI double from Manny Machado. Wesneski pitched five innings, allowing both Padres runs.
The Astros’ offense remained quiet until the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on, Christian Walker launched a two-run home run, his second of the season, off Padres starter Michael King, tying the game at 2-2.
Houston then took the lead in the seventh inning. After Victor Caratini singled and advanced, Isaac Paredes delivered a clutch RBI single off Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada (0-1), scoring Caratini and putting the Astros up 3-2.
The Astros bullpen was stellar in relief. Tayler Scott (1-1) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings, and closer Josh Hader (6th save) shut down the Padres in the ninth to preserve the narrow victory.
The win improves the Astros’ record to 10-10 on the season and guarantees them at least a split in the four-game series against the Padres.
