HOUSTON, TX – April 13, 2025 – The Houston Astros clinched their series against the Los Angeles Angels last night, defeating them 7-3 at Daikin Park. A pivotal five-run second inning, capped by a three-run home run from Isaac Paredes, propelled the Astros to victory.
Astros right-hander Hayden Wesneski (1-1) earned his first win of the season with a strong outing. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out a career-high 10 batters. All three runs against him came via solo home runs. Angels starter Kyle Hendricks (0-1) took the loss.
The Angels initially took a lead with early solo home runs. Taylor Ward hit one in the first inning, and Nolan Schanuel followed with another in the second, putting the Angels up 2-0.
However, the Astros’ offense roared to life in the bottom of the second. Cam Smith and Mauricio Dubón hit RBI singles to tie the game. Then, with two outs and two runners on, Isaac Paredes launched a three-run home run into the Crawford Boxes, his third homer in as many games, giving Houston a commanding 5-2 lead.
The Angels managed to add another solo home run from Jorge Soler in the sixth inning, but the Astros continued to extend their lead. Jeremy Peña hit an RBI groundout in the sixth, and Jose Altuve added a sacrifice fly in the seventh, pushing the score to its final mark of 7-3.
Despite tallying only six hits on the night, the Astros were highly efficient, securing the series win at home. The victory moves the Astros’ record to 7-8 on the season.
