Mariners Stage Stunning 7-Run Comeback, Defeat Astros 7-6

April 9, 2025

SEATTLE, WA – April 9, 2025 – The Houston Astros suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners last night at T-Mobile Park, as the Mariners staged a dramatic seven-run rally over the final two innings to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Astros starter Hunter Brown delivered an excellent performance, pitching six shutout innings and allowing only two hits. This strong outing helped the Astros build what appeared to be a commanding lead, as they held a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

However, the Mariners’ offense exploded for a shocking comeback. In the bottom of the eighth, Randy Arozarena ignited the rally with a crucial grand slam, drastically trimming Seattle’s deficit and putting the Mariners back in the game.

The drama continued into the top of the ninth when Astros’ Jeremy Peña scored on a wild pitch by Mariners reliever Casey Lawrence, extending Houston’s lead to 6-4 and seemingly providing some breathing room.

But the Mariners were not done. In the bottom of the ninth, Julio Rodríguez delivered a clutch two-run double to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Randy Arozarena then drew the game-winning walk, completing the improbable comeback and securing the 7-6 victory for Seattle.

Casey Lawrence (1-0) earned the win for the Mariners, while Astros reliever Bryan Abreu (0-1) took the loss. There was no save recorded in the game.

For the Astros, key offensive contributions included RBIs from Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Brendan Rodgers, and Jake Meyers. Jeremy Peña also added a double earlier in the game.

This stunning loss drops the Astros’ record to 5-8 on the season as they conclude their series in Seattle.
