HOUSTON, TX – April 2, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ early season struggles continued as they fell 6-3 to the San Francisco Giants at Minute Maid Park, completing a three-game sweep for the visiting Giants. San Francisco’s offense exploded early, proving too much for the Astros to overcome.
Giants’ reliever Randy Rodríguez (1-0) earned the win, while closer Camilo Doval secured his second save of the season.
The Giants wasted no time getting on the scoreboard against Astros ace Framber Valdez (1-1), who took his first loss of the season. Wilmer Flores launched a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the Giants an immediate lead. They extended their advantage in the second with a solo home run by Luis Matos and a two-run double from Heliot Ramos, pushing the score to a commanding 5-0.
The Astros managed to get on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Zach Dezenzo, making it 5-1. In the fifth inning, Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run single that brought the Astros within two runs, narrowing the gap to 5-3.
However, the Giants added an insurance run in the eighth inning when LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a solo home run, pushing their lead back to 6-3. The Astros offense, despite collecting 7 hits, left 9 runners on base and couldn’t mount a further comeback against the Giants’ bullpen.
With this loss, the Astros’ record drops to 2-4 on the season, as they conclude their opening homestand being swept by the Giants.
