Jim Crane and Central Missouri Connection

Astros Owner and Chairman Jim Crane, a former right-handed pitcher at the University of Central Missouri, contributes annually to the university’s athletic scholarship program. Crane also underwrote a $1.2 million renovation of the school’s former Mules Field in 1998, which was later renamed James R. Crane Stadium.

Additional upgrades followed in subsequent years, including the installation of synthetic turf in 2016 and the construction of a new MLB-style baseball clubhouse in 2021, funded by Crane’s lead gift to the UCM Foundation.
