Jose Altuve Undergoes Minor Foot Procedure, Expected Ready for Spring Training

November 18, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – November 18, 2025 – Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve underwent a minor skin aspiration procedure on Monday to address right foot discomfort that bothered him during the final two weeks of the regular season, a source told MLB.com. The procedure was successful, and Altuve is expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training.

Altuve had fluid removed from a wound between his fourth and fifth toes on his right foot. The issue first became apparent on September 13 when he was pulled from the Astros’ game against the Braves with right foot discomfort. He missed the following day’s game but courageously played through the discomfort for the remainder of the season before sitting out the final day after Houston was eliminated from playoff contention.

Despite the late-season foot issues and an unusual positional adjustment, the 35-year-old Altuve delivered another productive campaign in 2025. He hit .265 with 26 home runs, 77 RBIs, and 80 runs scored while appearing in 155 games (154 starts). Altuve began the season in left field to accommodate roster flexibility but returned to his natural position at second base following Yordan Alvarez’s right hand fracture that kept him out 100 games. Altuve’s versatility was evident as he started 61 games at second base, 49 at designated hitter, and 44 in left field.

The 2025 season marked Altuve’s 15th with the Astros, and he continued climbing the franchise’s all-time offensive leaderboards. He surpassed Jeff Bagwell to move into second place in franchise history with 2,388 hits, trailing only Craig Biggio’s 3,060. Altuve now ranks third in Astros history in both extra-base hits (742) and games played (1,976), behind Hall of Famers Biggio and Bagwell.

On August 10, Altuve hit his 250th career home run against the Yankees, becoming just the fourth primary second baseman to reach 255 homers and 325 steals—joining Hall of Famers Craig Biggio, Joe Morgan, and Ryne Sandberg in that exclusive club.
