Yordan Alvarez Picks Up Another AL Player of the Week Award
Yordan Alvarez is running out of room on the shelf.
The Astros designated hitter was named American League Player of the Week on Monday, marking the second time he has earned the honor this season and the fifth time in his career. The recognition adds to an already decorated start to 2026 after Alvarez was also named AL Player of the Month for March and April.
Alvarez also took home the award after Opening Week, and he has not slowed down much since.
Last week was another reminder of what he looks like when everything is clicking. Alvarez reached base in more than half of his plate appearances, hit two home runs, drove in nine runs, and continued to make life difficult for opposing pitchers every time he stepped into the box.
The strong week only added to what has already become one of baseball’s best starts to the season. Through June 8, Alvarez led the American League in home runs and RBIs and carried the highest OPS among qualified hitters in the majors.
It has been quite a bounce-back after last season, when injuries limited Alvarez to 48 games and his production dipped below his usual standards. In 2026, he has looked much more like the hitter Astros fans have come to expect.
