The Houston Astros are bringing back Dog Days for two games this weekend, giving fans a chance to bring their four-legged friends to Daikin Park as the Astros host the Athletics.
Dog Days, presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23. The first 500 dogs to enter the ballpark each day will receive an exclusive Astros dog toy.
But the weekend involves considerably more than simply bringing a dog to the game. Dog Day tickets include access to the appropriately named “Barking Room Only” area in Hall of Fame Alley and the Dog Zone on the Plaza at Crawford Street. A variety of animal organizations and businesses will also be on hand, including Best Friends Animal Society, Fort Bend PAWS, Three Dog Bakery, VERGI Animal Hospital, UrgentVet, and others.
Fans planning to bring a dog must complete a waiver and provide the dates of the animal’s most recent rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccinations. Dogs must remain leashed, owners must be prepared to clean up after their pets, and only one dog is permitted per pet parent.
Both the dog and its human need their own Dog Day tickets. Field Box seating in Sections 105, 106, and 107 is available for dogs weighing less than 80 pounds, while dogs of all sizes can use the standing-room-only area in Hall of Fame Alley. Dogs weighing 80 pounds or more must have standing-room-only tickets.
Dog water stations will be available inside the park, and fans may bring one factory-sealed clear plastic bottle of water of up to one liter. Dog strollers are also permitted, although they cannot be stored in seating areas and space is limited.
Dog Day participants will check in at Home Plate Gate, with dog entry closing one hour after first pitch.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT, while Sunday’s series finale begins at 1:10 p.m. CT. Fans who already have tickets through an Astros season-ticket package are instructed to contact their ticket representative to exchange their game ticket and purchase the required Dog Day tickets.
