Brewers on Brink, Braves Even Series as ALDS Resumes Monday
The National League Division Series delivered two very different outcomes Sunday.
Milwaukee is one win away from the NLCS after a dramatic walk-off victory over San Diego, while Atlanta salvaged a split in Los Angeles and heads home with its series against the Dodgers tied.
Monday belongs to the American League, with the White Sox and Rays each trying to turn 1-0 series leads into 2-0 advantages.
Chourio Walks Off the Padres
The Brewers are headed to San Diego with a 2-0 series lead after Jackson Chourio delivered the biggest hit of Sunday.
Milwaukee trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth when Chourio came to the plate against Padres closer Mason Miller with two outs and the bases loaded.
Chourio worked the count to 2-2 before lining a 101.3 mph fastball into center field for a two-run single, giving Milwaukee a 4-3 walk-off victory.
The Brewers made three errors and entered the ninth trailing, but still found a way to win for the second straight game.
Milwaukee can close out the series Tuesday night in San Diego.

Braves Head Home Even
Atlanta’s bullpen plan worked.
The Braves used six pitchers to hold Los Angeles to two runs in a 3-2 victory Sunday night, evening the series at one game apiece.
Ray Kerr opened with 2 2/3 scoreless innings. After Atlanta worked through several relievers, 21-year-old Didier Fuentes covered 3 2/3 innings, allowing only Max Muncy’s two-out solo homer in the ninth.
Michael Harris II led the offense with three hits. He tripled in the fifth and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, then added an RBI double in the seventh.
Raisel Iglesias recorded the final out after Muncy’s homer pulled Los Angeles within one.
The series now shifts to Atlanta, where Chris Sale is scheduled to start Game 3.

White Sox Try to Push Cleveland to the Brink
Chicago shut out Cleveland 3-0 in Game 1 and can take a 2-0 series lead Monday afternoon at Progressive Field.
The White Sox will open with left-hander Anthony Kay before turning to Sean Burke for bulk innings. Burke went 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA in three appearances against Cleveland this season, striking out 21 in 17 1/3 innings.
The Guardians counter with Gavin Williams, who finished the regular season with a 3.76 ERA and 248 strikeouts.
Cleveland managed only three hits in Game 1 and failed to capitalize on a pair of bases-loaded opportunities.
Game 2: Monday, 4 p.m. CT, TBS/truTV/HBO Max
Yankees Need an Answer for Tampa Bay
The Yankees will try to recover from Saturday’s 1-0 loss after Drew Rasmussen held them to one hit over eight innings.
New York turns to Cam Schlittler, who was dominant away from home this season. He went 8-2 with a 1.16 ERA in 17 road starts and led the majors in road ERA and road strikeouts.
Tampa Bay counters with Freddy Peralta. The veteran right-hander went 5-0 with a 0.79 ERA over his final six starts and was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for September.
The Rays can take a 2-0 lead before the series moves to New York.

Where the Division Series Stand
Milwaukee leads San Diego, 2-0.
Atlanta and Los Angeles are tied, 1-1.
Chicago leads Cleveland, 1-0.
Tampa Bay leads New York, 1-0.
By the end of Monday night, both American League series could be even—or two more teams could find themselves one loss from elimination.
