Yordan Alvarez Named Finalist for Hank Aaron Award
Yordan Alvarez’s remarkable 2026 season could bring another major honor. Major League Baseball announced Monday that Alvarez is one of 10 American League finalists for the Hank Aaron Award, which recognizes the most outstanding regular-season offensive performer in each league.
Alvarez won his first AL batting title with a .316 average while hitting 42 home runs and driving in 106 runs. He finished the season with a 1.033 OPS, helping carry the Astros to the AL West title despite the team’s 81-81 record.
A committee of MLB.com journalists selected the finalists based on their offensive statistics, accomplishments, and performances during the regular season. The winners will be determined through a combination of fan voting and ballots cast by a panel of Hall of Famers and former award recipients, including Astros legend Craig Biggio.
Fan voting is open through 10:59 a.m. CT Monday, Oct. 12. The winners will be announced during the MLB Awards at 8 p.m. CT Wednesday, Nov. 11.
