June 26, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – June 26, 2025 – The Houston Astros secured a dominant three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies last night at Daikin Park, grinding out a 2-1 victory in the series finale. The Astros’ pitching staff stifled the Phillies’ powerful lineup throughout the entire series, holding them to just two runs over three games.

Astros starter Hunter Brown received a no-decision despite a brilliant outing, pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and striking out nine. The win went to Bryan Abreu (3-3), who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Josh Hader (S, 22) then closed out the ninth for his 22nd save of the season. For the Phillies, Cristopher Sánchez was also excellent, but Orion Kerkering (5-3) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.

The Astros were the first to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning. Yainer Díaz singled to center field, driving in Jake Meyers, who had singled earlier, giving Houston a 1-0 lead.
The game remained a tense 1-0 affair until the eighth inning, with both starting pitchers dominating. Hunter Brown lowered his league-best ERA with his fantastic performance, and Sánchez matched him with 11 strikeouts over six innings.

The Phillies finally broke their 26-inning scoreless streak in the top of the eighth inning. With runners on base, Brandon Marsh hit a sacrifice fly off Bryan King, scoring Bryson Stott and tying the game at 1-1.

However, the Astros immediately responded in the bottom of the eighth. After Isaac Paredes was hit by a pitch and Jose Altuve singled, Cam Smith delivered a crucial RBI single to left-center field off Orion Kerkering, scoring Paredes and putting the Astros back in front, 2-1.

Bryan Abreu then came in and shut down the Phillies in the final innings, including striking out Trea Turner to end the eighth and then striking out the side in the ninth, securing the hard-fought victory and the sweep.

The Astros finished with 2 runs on 7 hits, while the Phillies managed only 1 run on 4 hits.
The sweep was a major success for the Astros, improving their record to 48-33 and extending their winning streak to four games.
