MLB released the first 2026 All-Star vote totals today, and the news for Houston Astros fans is good. Yordan Alvarez leads all American League players with 1,015,768 votes, putting him on track to earn an automatic starting spot as the AL’s leading vote-getter in Phase 1.
That would make this his second All-Star start, having been elected as the AL’s starting designated hitter in 2024. Given what he has done this season, it would be hard to argue with.
Alvarez is tied for the major-league lead with 24 home runs, leads all qualified hitters in OPS at 1.093, and is batting .326. He leads the AL in all three Triple Crown categories—home runs, RBI, and batting average—a feat no AL hitter has accomplished over a full season since Miguel Cabrera in 2012 and one no Astro has ever achieved. Nobody in the AL leads their position by a wider margin—Alvarez is more than 692,000 votes ahead of Springer at designated hitter. Now a Toronto Blue Jay, Springer is a former Astro who helped Houston win the 2017 World Series and was named its MVP.
Jeremy Peña is also in the mix at shortstop, sitting fifth with 162,537 votes. He trails Bobby Witt Jr., who leads the position comfortably, but is within striking distance of the top two spots that advance to Phase 2 voting. Jose Altuve is fourth among AL second basemen with 244,131 votes, within range of advancing as well.
Phase 1 voting closes June 25 at noon ET. Fans can vote up to five times every 24 hours at MLB.com, on any of the 30 club sites, or through the MLB app. The All-Star Game is July 14 in Philadelphia.
Alvarez looks headed to Philadelphia either way. Help make sure Peña and Altuve join him.
