Astros Offense Explodes for 10 Runs in Series Opener vs. Twins

HOUSTON, TX – June 13, 2025 – The Houston Astros picked up right where they left off, as their offense erupted for 10 runs in a dominant 10-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night at Daikin Park. This commanding win marked the start of a three-game series and extended the Astros’ winning ways at home.

Astros right-hander Colton Gordon (2-1) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. For the Twins, Chris Paddack (2-6) took the loss, enduring a rough outing where he gave up eight runs on twelve hits in just three innings.

The Astros wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, putting up a three-spot in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Cam Smith hit a two-run single, scoring Jake Meyers and Jose Altuve. Jacob Melton then followed with an RBI single, bringing home Christian Walker and giving the Astros a 3-0 lead.

Houston continued to pile on in the bottom of the second. Jose Altuve hit a two-run double, scoring Jeremy Peña and Victor Caratini, pushing the lead to 5-0.

The offensive barrage escalated in the bottom of the third. Jacob Melton tripled to score Isaac Paredes and Jake Meyers. Mauricio Dubón then hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Melton, making it 8-0 and chasing Paddack from the game.

The Twins finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when Will Castro hit a solo home run.
However, Jose Altuve responded with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the fourth, his 10th of the season, extending the lead to 9-1.

The Twins added another run in the sixth with a solo home run from Royce Lewis, but the Astros got one more in the eighth when Jeremy Peña singled to score Victor Caratini, bringing the final score to 10-3.

The Astros’ offense was relentless, collecting 14 hits on the night. Jose Altuve (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI), Jacob Melton (2-for-5, 3B, 3 RBI), and Cam Smith (2-for-5, 2 RBI) led the charge.

The win improved the Astros’ record to 39-30, starting their new homestand on a high note.
