Astros Shut Out by Blue Jays

September 11, 2025

TORONTO, CANADA — September 11, 2025 — The Houston Astros’ offense came up empty on Thursday afternoon, as they were shut out 6-0 by the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The loss was a tough one for the Astros, who managed only four hits against a masterful pitching performance from Kevin Gausman, who went the distance for a complete game shutout.

Gausman was in a league of his own, commanding his fastball and baffling the Astros’ lineup all game long. He struck out eight batters, walked none, and showed why he is considered one of the top aces in the league. The Astros simply had no answer for him, failing to put a single runner in scoring position after the fifth inning.

The Blue Jays’ offense gave Gausman all the support he needed early on. They got on the board in the first inning against Astros starter Cristian Javier and never looked back. The decisive blow came in the fourth, when Daulton Varsho hit a clutch triple off of Javier, driving in two more runs to extend Toronto’s lead. Javier struggled to keep the powerful Toronto lineup in check and was tagged for five earned runs before being pulled in the fifth inning.

While the Astros’ bullpen provided some relief, it was too little, too late. The team’s best chance to score came in the ninth, when Carlos Correa came to the plate with two outs. But Gausman got him to ground out sharply to first base, sealing the complete game shutout and sending the Houston hitters back to the dugout in defeat.

The loss came at a bad time for the Astros, who are in a tight race for the AL West title. They’ll need to bounce back quickly as the regular season enters its final stretch. With a record of 78-65, they still hold a 1.0-game lead in the AL West over the second-place Seattle Mariners, who sit at 77-66. The Texas Rangers are a bit further back with a 74-68 record, 3.5 games behind. Rounding out the division are the Los Angeles Angels (69-74) and Oakland Athletics (58-84). The Astros will look to get back on track tomorrow, as they travel to Atlanta to start a new series against the Braves.
