Yordan Alvarez Wins Third AL Player of the Week Award of 2026
Yordan Alvarez capped one of the best weeks of his season by earning American League Player of the Week honors for the third time in 2026 and the sixth time in his career.
Alvarez slashed .435/.462/.957 across 26 plate appearances last week, hitting four home runs and driving in 11 runs to lead all AL players. The week began with a grand slam against the Twins on Tuesday and ended with a dramatic walk-off two-run homer in the ninth inning against the Rays on Saturday that completed a five-run comeback and snapped Tampa Bay’s nine-game winning streak. He enters the final week before the All-Star break leading the American League with 29 home runs.
The award puts an exclamation point on a dominant first half for Alvarez, who was also voted the American League’s starting designated hitter for next week’s All-Star Game in Philadelphia. A two-time AL Player of the Month this season, Alvarez has established himself as one of baseball’s premier offensive forces and will head into the break among the favorites for additional hardware later this year.
