Brewers Acquire Braden Shewmake From Astros
Braden Shewmake is now a Milwaukee Brewer. The Astros designated the infielder for assignment on July 10, and Milwaukee acquired him for cash considerations on July 12, giving the Brewers infield depth while David Hamilton works through a left hamstring injury on the injured list.
Shewmake, a former first-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2019, hit .256 with a .695 OPS and three home runs in 83 plate appearances with Houston this season. Across 61 career major league games, he owns a .192 batting average and .519 OPS. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said the club valued Shewmake’s left-handed bat and defensive versatility, describing him as a player who “runs, hits for contact.”
The move ends a brief stint in Houston for Shewmake, who appeared in 28 games after joining the organization and provided infield depth before being designated for assignment. The Astros received cash considerations in return for the 27-year-old.
Shewmake wasted no time making his Brewers debut, starting at third base and batting ninth against Pirates ace Paul Skenes later the same day the trade became official.
