Astros Option Jake Meyers, Recall Zach Dezenzo in Outfield Shakeup

Houston made four roster moves Saturday before their game against Tampa Bay, with LaMonte Wade Jr. returning from the injured list headlining the changes.

Wade, who signed with Houston on June 4 and strained his hamstring four games in, completed his rehab assignment and is back on the active roster. Zach Dezenzo was also recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land.

To make room, Jake Meyers and Joey Loperfido were both optioned to Sugar Land. Meyers has been a fixture in center field for Houston in recent seasons but has not produced at the plate this year. Loperfido had been up and down between Houston and Triple-A for much of the season. Brice Matthews and Taylor Trammell are expected to handle center field going forward.

The Astros could use the boost. They are in the middle of a three-game series against a Tampa Bay Rays team that has won nine straight and owns the best record in the American League—and dropped the opener 3-1 on Friday night. Not exactly the ideal time to be sorting out the outfield.
