HOUSTON — The Houston Astros extended their winning streak to four games Tuesday night, defeating the Boston Red Sox 9-2 at Daikin Park to secure the three-game series.
Hunter Brown delivered six strong innings, allowing one run before turning it over to a bullpen that remained in control. Cody Bolton made his Astros debut with a scoreless seventh after being called up Monday, and Jovani Morán handled the final two innings as Houston closed out a game that never slipped away.
The Astros struck immediately. Jeremy Peña opened the bottom of the first with a single and scored on a Yordan Alvarez RBI double, giving Houston a lead it would not relinquish. A three-run third inning stretched the advantage, highlighted by a Christian Walker two-run single that made it 3-0.
Houston put the game out of reach in the fifth. Alvarez launched a solo home run, his third of the season, before Walker doubled for his fifth of the year, continuing his early-season surge. A chaotic sequence on Joey Loperfido’s stolen base attempt led to two Boston errors, allowing another run to score. Loperfido later added an RBI single, and Carlos Correa’s two-run single in the sixth pushed the lead to 9-2.
Walker continues to be a force at the top of the order, leading the MLB in doubles through the first week of the season. Teammate Isaac Paredes is right behind him with three, giving the Astros two of the top doubles hitters in the game through six games.
Cam Smith added a solo home run in the seventh, his first of the season, as the Astros received contributions throughout the lineup.
Houston improves to 4-2 on the season. The series concludes Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. CT at Daikin Park with Mike Burrows starting.
