HOUSTON, TX – September 1, 2025 — The Houston Astros ended their two-game skid and avoided a series loss, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 in the final game of their four-game series. The victory was a much-needed morale boost for the team as they head into a tough September schedule.
The Houston offense, which had been shut out in the previous two games, came to life with contributions throughout the lineup. The scoring began early in the second inning when Ramón Urías hit a solo home run to put the Astros up 1-0. In the third, the Astros added another run on an RBI single from Jose Altuve. The biggest inning came in the sixth when the Astros plated three runs. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from Jeremy Peña.
The scoring continued into the eighth inning. After a single from Carlos Correa, a double by Urías drove him in. Jose Altuve followed with a two-run homer to cap off the scoring for the Astros. The offense was a welcome change for a team that has struggled with timely hitting lately.
Pitching was a major factor in the victory. The Astros received a much-needed boost from a returning starter. Luis Garcia, making his first start since returning from Tommy John surgery, pitched a strong six innings, allowing three runs and striking out six. The bullpen held the Angels scoreless for the rest of the game, a key factor in securing the win.
The Astros’ victory improves their record to 76-62. They now hold a 2.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. The Mariners did not play today and their record stands at 73-64. The Astros will next face the New York Yankees as they look to build on this momentum and solidify their playoff position.
