HOUSTON, TX – August 26, 2025 — After an offensive explosion in Baltimore, the Houston Astros returned home only to have their bats fall silent in a 6-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night at Daikin Park. The loss snapped the Astros’ three-game winning streak and detracted from the return of designated hitter Yordan Alvarez.
The Astros’ offense, which had been so potent in the previous series, managed to get on the board early on a Jesús Sánchez solo home run in the second inning. However, that was all the offense they could muster. The team went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left a total of 18 runners on base. The offense’s struggles were particularly apparent after Alvarez’s return from a right hand fracture, as the slugger went 0-for-2 with two walks. He did, however, receive a standing ovation from the crowd in his first at-bat.
Astros’ starter Hunter Brown struggled on the mound, giving up six runs in 6 2/3 innings, though only two were earned. The Rockies took the lead in the third inning after a costly error by Jeremy Peña, which allowed the Rockies to score four runs in the frame. The Rockies added to their lead in the fifth inning with a two-run double from Mickey Moniak, making the score 6-1. The Rockies’ Tanner Gordon was stellar on the mound, allowing just one run on six hits in six innings of work.
The loss drops the Astros’ record to 72-60, but they still maintain a narrow 1.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. The Astros will look to bounce back and get back in the win column in game two of the series against the Rockies on Wednesday night.
