BALTIMORE, MD – August 21, 2025 — The Houston Astros finally broke through on Thursday night, snapping a four-game losing streak with a convincing 7-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The win was a much-needed morale boost for a team that had been struggling with a historic offensive slump.
The Astros’ offense, which had been dormant for days, came alive early and often. The scoring began in the first inning when Christian Walker launched a two-run home run, his 17th of the season. The Astros continued to pour it on in the second with an RBI single from Carlos Correa and a sacrifice fly from Mauricio Dubón. The big blows came in the third, as Yainer Diaz hit a towering two-run home run, his 18th, followed by an RBI double from Victor Caratini to extend the lead to 7-1.
The Astros’ offense finally resembled the powerful unit it’s known to be, finishing the night with 11 hits. The Orioles’ lone run came on a solo home run by Dillon Beavers in the second inning.
Astros’ rookie pitcher Jake Alexander (4-1) was stellar on the mound, giving the team a much-needed quality start. He pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six. The bullpen, including newly acquired veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel, closed out the game, allowing just one run in the final three innings.
The win improves the Astros’ record to 70-58. They still trail the Seattle Mariners by 1.5 games in the American League West standings, as the Mariners also won their game tonight. The Astros will look to build on this momentum in game two of the four-game series against the Orioles.
