Another Crushing Defeat: Astros Swept by Tigers in 7-2 Loss

August 21, 2025

DETROIT, MI – August 20, 2025 — The Houston Astros’ agonizing losing streak reached four games on Wednesday, as they were swept by the Detroit Tigers in a 7-2 loss at Comerica Park. The defeat was a dismal end to a series where the Astros’ offense was historically bad, managing only two runs over the three games and setting a franchise record for a scoreless streak.

The Tigers didn’t waste any time, scoring six runs in the first inning against Astros starter Framber Valdez. The pivotal moment of the inning came on a sharp RBI triple from Dillon Dingler. In a frightening moment, Astros center fielder Taylor Trammell collided with the outfield wall while attempting a catch and had to be carted off the field. He is being evaluated for a concussion as well as neck and back stiffness.

The Tigers’ veteran starter, Charlie Morton, pitched six masterful scoreless innings against his former team to earn the win. The Astros’ offense finally broke their historic 31-inning scoreless streak in the fourth inning when Mauricio Dubón hit a two-run homer, but it was far too little, too late. The Tigers’ bullpen, including former Astro Rafael Montero, closed out the game.

The loss drops the Astros’ record to a disappointing 69-58, putting them 1.5 games behind the first-place Seattle Mariners in the AL West standings. The team now heads to Baltimore for a four-game series against the Orioles, where they will desperately try to snap their losing streak and get their season back on track.
