Astros Get Back on Track: Peña, Alexander Lead Way in 8-2 Win Over Marlins

August 7, 2025

MIAMI, FL – August 4, 2025 – After a frustrating three-game sweep in Boston, the Houston Astros found their footing in Miami, snapping their losing streak with a decisive 8-2 victory over the Marlins. The win was a collective effort, highlighted by a dominant pitching performance and an offensive surge that finally showed signs of the team’s newly acquired firepower.

The Astros’ offense came alive in a big way during a five-run fourth inning. The rally was ignited by new acquisition Jesus Sanchez, who doubled to drive in a run against his former team. Carlos Correa followed with a single to score another, and Yainer Diaz capped off the explosive inning with a clutch two-run double, breaking the game wide open.

But the night belonged to rookie pitcher Jason Alexander. In what was a stellar outing, Alexander was brilliant, pitching six scoreless innings while holding the Marlins to just three hits. He struck out six and earned his second win of the season, a much-needed performance for an Astros rotation that has been stretched thin.

Leading the charge offensively was Jeremy Peña, who, in his second game back from the injured list, looked sharp at shortstop and had a great night at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI, including a double that drove in a run in the seventh inning.

While the Marlins did manage to hit a pair of solo home runs in the seventh inning, it was far from enough to mount a comeback. The Astros added two more runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Mauricio Dubón and a single by Cam Smith, sealing the 8-2 victory.

The win provided a much-needed boost for the Astros, allowing them to finally celebrate a victory since their busy trade deadline and giving them some positive momentum as they continued their series in Miami.
