BOSTON, MA – August 3, 2025 – The Houston Astros’ challenging road trip through Boston concluded today with a decisive 6-1 loss to the Red Sox, completing a three-game sweep for the home team. What began with high hopes after a flurry of trade deadline moves has quickly turned into a frustrating start to August for the Astros, who now carry a three-game losing streak.
The Astros’ lone run came in the fourth inning when Carlos Correa launched his eighth home run of the season to left-center field, marking his second homer in as many games since rejoining the team. However, that was all the offense Houston could muster against Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito, who was stellar, pitching eight strong innings and limiting the Astros to just three hits.
Astros ace Framber Valdez (now 11-5), who had been on a personal 10-game winning streak, suffered the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) over six innings. The Red Sox broke the game open with a massive six-run fourth inning, capitalizing on several Houston miscues including a missed cutoff, a wild pitch, a balk, a fielding error, and a passed ball that allowed runs to cross the plate. Trevor Story and Ceddanne Rafaela had key RBI singles in the frame, highlighting a sloppy inning for the Astros.
Despite the highly anticipated returns of Correa and Jeremy Peña to the lineup, and the presence of new acquisition Jesus Sanchez, the Astros’ offense struggled to produce consistently throughout the series. Peña, making his second start back, went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts today.
The sweep in Boston is a tough blow for an Astros team that aggressively bought at the deadline, aiming to solidify its position atop the AL West. They will now look to regroup as they head to Miami to face the Marlins, hoping to put an end to this concerning skid.
