HOUSTON, TX – July 30, 2025 – For Astros fans heading to Daikin Park on Tuesday, July 29th, the pre-game excitement took an unexpected, and somewhat painful, turn. A large bee swarm near downtown Houston, along a busy pedestrian route leading to the stadium, stung several fans, prompting a swift and safe removal operation.
The incident occurred as fans were making their way to the ballpark. While the exact number of individuals stung wasn’t specified, reports indicated “several” Astros fans received stings.
Fortunately, a local nonprofit, “Bee and Me,” quickly responded to the scene to handle the relocation. Carlos Hernandez from “Bee and Me” led the effort, which involved carefully extracting an estimated 60,000 bees from a low-hanging tree branch. Using specialized techniques involving smoke and vacuum, the team worked to locate and protect the queen bee, ensuring the swarm’s well-being during the process.
The thousands of bees were successfully relocated to a safer, more appropriate environment where they can continue their vital work of pollination, highlighting the importance of preserving these essential insects. While a jarring experience for those stung, the quick action ensured both public safety and the protection of the bee population.
