July 23, 2025

PHOENIX, AZ – July 23, 2025 – The Houston Astros officially put their Seattle series behind them, completing a dominant three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with a hard-fought 4-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field. The win marks the Astros’ third consecutive victory and signals a strong rebound.

After a pair of tight games, the Astros once again found a way to win, showcasing resilience and timely hitting. Houston rallied from an early deficit to secure the sweep.

The Diamondbacks got on the board first, with Ketel Marte launching his 20th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.

Astros starter Brandon Walter (2-3), despite being known for his ability to go deep into games, had a challenging outing. He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up just 1 earned run on 7 hits, striking out 5.

However, the Astros’ defense had a key miscue in the sixth inning when a fielding error by shortstop Geraldo Perdomo allowed Christian Walker to score, tying the game at 1-1.

The Astros then took the lead in the sixth on a line out by Cooper Hummel that scored Yainer Diaz. They added an insurance run in the eighth when Mauricio Dubón singled to score Yainer Diaz, and another in the ninth when Christian Walker singled home Zack Short, pushing the lead to 4-1.

However, the Diamondbacks mounted a fierce comeback attempt in the bottom of the eighth. Against Astros reliever Bryan Sousa, Arizona strung together some hits. Corbin Carroll doubled home Geraldo Perdomo, making it 4-2. Then, Josh Naylor singled to right, bringing in Ketel Marte and narrowing the gap to 4-3. Manager Joe Espada then turned to closer Josh Hader, who came in with runners on the corners and recorded the final out of the eighth, preventing further damage. Hader then shut down the Diamondbacks in the ninth, earning the save and sealing the sweep.

Houston’s offense collected 11 hits on the day, with Yainer Diaz leading the way with a 3-for-5 performance, scoring two runs.

With this crucial road sweep, the Houston Astros improve their record to 60-42 on the season, gaining valuable ground in the American League West and demonstrating their ability to bounce back from adversity. They now head home to Daikin Park for a four-game series against the Oakland Athletics.
