Astros Complete Stunning Sweep of Dodgers with 5-1 Victory at Dodger Stadium

July 6, 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA – July 6, 2025 – The Houston Astros capped off an unforgettable series at Dodger Stadium, completing a rare three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a commanding 5-1 victory. The Astros’ pitching staff and timely power hitting silenced the Dodgers, sending a strong message across the league.

Ryan Gusto (6-3) delivered a stellar performance for the Astros, earning the win after throwing six strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out one. He effectively shut down the heart of the Dodgers’ lineup. The Astros bullpen, including Bennett Sousa, Bryan King, and Bryan Abreu, combined for three scoreless innings to seal the win. Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan, making his second big-league start in his return from Tommy John surgery, gave up one run on five hits over five innings in a solid but losing effort.

The Dodgers briefly took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Dalton Rushing. However, the Astros quickly tied it in the third when Jose Altuve hit a sacrifice fly to score Zack Short.

The decisive moment came in the sixth inning when Zack Short, after battling through an eight-pitch at-bat, drew a two-out bases-loaded walk off reliever Will Klein (1-1), pushing across the go-ahead run and giving the Astros a 2-1 lead.

Houston then broke the game open with power in the eighth. Christian Walker led off with a solo home run, his 12th of the season, followed immediately by Yainer Diaz with another solo shot, his 12th, extending the lead to 4-1 off Dodgers closer Tanner Scott. Jose Altuve added a solo blast in the ninth inning, his 16th of the year, to make it 5-1.

A critical defensive play in the eighth inning by Astros center fielder Taylor Trammell, who made a remarkable sliding catch on a 104-mph line drive from Freddie Freeman, preserved the lead and any hope of a Dodgers rally.

The Astros outscored the Dodgers by a staggering 29-6 in the series, showcasing their balanced attack and strong pitching.

With this impressive sweep, the Houston Astros have elevated their season record to 55 wins and 35 losses (55-35). They now head into the All-Star break on a high note, asserting their dominance as one of the league’s top teams.
